RUET Stands by July Movement Activists with Educational Support

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) observed the second day of its program titled "Revival of the July Uprising" on Thursday (July 17). The event, held at the university’s hall room at 11 a.m., featured a special segment dedicated to providing educational support to a participant of the movement.

Kaushik Islam Apurba, a student of Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College, received a cheque of BDT 100,000 from the RUET community as educational assistance. Apurba was shot in the leg in the Alopatti area of Rajshahi on August 5 and was attacked again while being transported to the hospital.

Prof. Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarkar, Director of the Students' Welfare Office and Convener of the July Uprising Revival Committee, stated that educational support for July Movement participants would continue in the future. He remarked, “The July Uprising will remain a historic example for all who run the state or any institution. The lesson of this movement is that any future authoritarian tendencies by governments will be reminded of the consequences of past oppression.”

The program commenced with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an. Attendees prayed for the martyrs of the July Movement and paid respect to the injured and those who took part in the uprising.

RUET faculty, staff, and students recalled the July 24 Uprising through heartfelt speeches. Speakers emphasized the need to uphold the spirit of the movement in eradicating corruption and social discrimination. Student participants shared personal accounts of the movement, expressing their aspirations for a just and equitable nation.
